Atienza Kali
A weapons-based system of Filipino origins, Kali is now practised throughout the United States and Europe. Atienza Kali is a family system taught by Guro Edgar “Butch” Atienza to his sons Tuhons Allain, Carl and Darryl. Its main focus is on multiple opponent combat, both armed and unarmed, in addition to group fighting concepts and strategies.
Wasserkuppe Seminar, Germany 2009
A large group of Irish Jiu-Jitsu Academy students from Waterford Jiu-Jitsu Club recently travelled to Wasserkuppe, Germany for the annual international training camp hosted by Kyoshi Jurgen Kippel (8th dan Jiu-Jitsu). The idyllic mountain location was enhanced for the Irish contingent by the heavy snow-fall which provided much entertainment for the junior students during the stay. Over the course of the weekend, the students trained under numerous of instructors from Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, England and Ireland in various styles of jiu-jitsu and other martial arts. Wasserkuppe Seminar, Germany 2008
A large Irish contingent travelled to the 5th International Jiu-Jitsu Seminar in Wasserkuppe, Germany, from the 8th – 12th October 2008. The seminar, hosted by Shihan Jürgen Kippel (8th dan Jiu-Jitsu), was held in the idyllic mountain location of Wasserkuppe (Water peak) – the highest peak of the Rhön mountain range in the state of Hesse. Historically, the Wasserkuppe is best known in Germany as the centre for the development of various types of aircraft, and as a training centre for practically every notable test pilot between the Wars. Rhinefelden, Germany 2008
On the 13th June 2008 a large Irish contingent travelled to Rhinefelden, Germany, for the 4th International Jiu-Jitsu Seminar hosted by Shihan Oliver Gugel (6th Dan Jiu-Jitsu). Students and instructors from Kilkenny, Waterford and Maynooth Jiu-Jitsu Clubs enjoyed an intensive weekend of training with jiu-jitsu masters from Germany, England, Switzerland, Portugal, and New Zealand. Renshi Hazel Farrell (Waterford), and Sensei Jonathan Quinn (Kilkenny) also instructed throughout the weekend and were very well received by the international students.
